An Exhausting Day...Mentally!!

Yesterday, I had taken the kids strawberry picking. We had an extra little boy that I am watching for part of the summer. Let's just say, having an extra child can make things challenging. It started out good and they were all doing a good job picking. Then came the squeezing of strawberries, the running up and down the isle that we were given to pick from, and throwing strawberries!! It didn't help that they had one to follow their example from. Finally, I had enough and we all left.
Jesse was my only hard worker this time, which surprised me. He usually gives up right away and complains, but he filled half a flat all by himself!! So he had gotten many praises :)
We then stopped and picked up my niece and nephew to come back to our house while my sister went to work. After lunch, Jesse had pulled out all the yard games to play, so while I was setting up badminton with Joshua, Jesse set up croquet, washer toss, and bean bag toss. They all mostly played badminton. They made up their own rules which most definitely called for a "line judge" and "referee" seeing that too much arguing was going on.
Jacob and Ava WERE playing badminton at first, but then decided to go off and catch bees! Jacob had gotten stung, but handled it real well and told them "No more catching bees". While I was watching the game, Ava and Jacob decided next to catch birds. So unbeknownst to ME, they had found two ice cream buckets with lids and put bird seeds in them and had poked holes in the lids and left them open for the birds to jump in and then they would "sneakily run up to the bucket and cover it!". Ok, fine, no problem.
I went back to watch the game and then came back to check on the two bird catchers to only find that they'd been snacking on strawberries, no problem. Left again, came back, and they had their shirts filled with strawberries. Ok, "If ya get full, put the rest back". Left, came back, and Ava is feeding the neighbourhood kids my, no more handing out our strawberries! Left...I know I should have NEVER left...came back and now the strawberries from the shirts were dumped in with the bird seeds "to feed the birds"...ok, NO MORE STRAWBERRIES!!
My sister comes to pick up her kids and while we were inside talking, Ava and Jacob were decorating our front door by taping up branches from our bushes.
Later, while we were all still talking, Joshua had wanted to light the grill with the matches because our built in igniter on the grill is broken. I said, "Sure, I'll be out in just a minute." Well, ya know your minute really means like 10. So he had set the matches down on the grill and 10 min later came in and said, "Are you coming?" "Yes, yes, I'll be right there.". He went back outside and the matches were GONE!! Molly and I looked at each other...AVA!!! We ran outside, I ran around the back side of the house and there they were, Ava and Jacob hiding behind the central air unit holding a burnt out match stick. Needless to say, they both had gotten in trouble. Good thing it was windy to have blown out the match right away.
And that was my exhausting day!!

Busy for the Next 6 Weeks!!

Last year this time, I was finishing up with school and just getting into the Francine Rivers and Karen Kingsbury books. By the end of summer I had read at least 20 books!! Sure we took walks to the park and such, but I felt I had sooo much extra time on my hands, and that was ok. This year....oh dear!
We had finished up with work sheet papers back in March and are now just working through history, science, health, reading, and spelling....which still isn't a whole lot and I figured this summer would be like last....what was I thinking? :)
While volunteering with garbage pick up at Chocolate Fest for our pregnancy center, I had met many new faces and made friends with two in particular whom have changed my slow boring summer to a fun, full busy summer!!
I had met Wendy, who has six kids and home schools the younger 3. She is soooo resourceful!! We went to Bong last week and she had blessed our family by getting us a season pass to all the Wisconsin State Parks!! We all had such a fun time at Bong that I had taken the kids again yesterday for a picnic and swimming :)
I also had gotten to know Shanon, another counsellor at Life Choices. She has a little 7 year old boy and didn't know what she was going to do with him this summer seeing that someone had backed out of wanting to babysit him. So I said, "I'll do it!". I figured we could use the money for gas for when we move.
I officially started watching him yesterday.
Last week, Wendy had set up a home school meeting at the library to learn of all the fun programs that the library was offering for the summer and then to discuss future get togethers or school programs and other informational stuff :) So now my calendar is marked full of all the upcoming FREE things at the library!! I am excited!! :)
Two weeks ago, I had taken the kids to the Home Depot Kid's Workshop and they had a ton of fun, so I'll be taking them again this Saturday!!
Today is library day, where I let the kids play on the computers and pick out books and movie.
Tomorrow we'll go pick strawberries.
Thursday, the home school group is going bowling!! I am super excited about this because my kids have never gone bowling!!
I've also been running meals over to my friend's house for her and her family...please continue to pray for her! (This what makes me torn about moving...I truly want to be here for her)
In the coming weeks, I'll be preparing for a rummage sale before we move, so I'll be busy sorting through unwanted things.
Then the end of July, we'll make two weekend trips to Arkansas. The first trip will be with both vehicles going down either pulling the boat or a trailer load of our stuff. The second trip will be our final trip with the car and a huge moving truck.
All in all, we have an extremely busy 6 weeks ahead of us and I am excited!! What makes this all kind of funny is, I had told our new neighbour that I was home all the time if she ever needed me!! Lol!! I never guessed that I would be THIS busy!!
So look forward to many blog posts :)

Just What We Needed...

Last night, a friend that I had met while volunteering at Chocolate Fest, called me up and asked if we'd like to go to Bong Recreational Park for the day. I said no only because I knew we didn't have the extra money to go. She offered to pay our way! Not only pay our way but to buy us a seasons pass. If we go three times, it would pay for itself. Wow! What a blessing! I am not one to accept things from others so of course I was hesitant and said no, but she was persistent and had really wanted to do this. I was so thankful for her generosity!
So today we had met up around 10am and waited as another mom wit two little kids were coming. The kids were able to look around in the main office building and see the many different little critters or displays. We even made it in time for feeding time for a snake!! The staff had dropped in 5 freshly dead baby mice into the tank!! The snake devoured those things in no time and the kids were grossed out and in awe at the same time :)
Once Amy, the other mom, arrived, we had set out on our 1.8 mile walk with all 9 kids and 3 adults. Good thing I had brought water :) Only had a few complaints from my kids, but other than that they did real well. When we were finished with the hike, we loaded up in our cars and headed over to the little beach, had lunch, and let the kids swim. Thankfully Wendy had brought her suit and was willing to go in with the kids :) The kids thought it was cool to see some minnows and little bluegill. After they were done swimming, they all played on the playground for a bit before we headed out to go home.
It was such a gorgeous day and perfect to just be out and about and be outside. With Stephanie close to my thoughts and prayers throughout the day, being out was just what we needed.

My Heart Can't Take Anymore...

"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me." John 14:1

"I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth." Psalms 121:1-2

"Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;
Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God." II Corinthians 1:3-4

Ever since hearing the news of my friend having cancer in her lungs and liver, I've been walking around in a daze. Yesterday, she found out that she has cancer on her brain.
Cancer is evil. Period.

My heart can't take this anymore! I feel so helpless! She's my friend and I feel so helpless! I wanna fix it, make it better, make it all go away, but I can't! All I can do is cry out to my Lord and Saviour and beg for His mercy and healing!
I can't thoughts are at loss...
I will still praise Him!

Kid's Workshop at Home Depot

Saturday I had watched a little boy, Logan, who I will be watching this summer until we move.
I had heard about the Kid's Workshop at Home Depot years ago from a friend, but had never gone until now :)
The kids had fun making either a little bird feeder, battery storage shelf, an organizer, or a football stand. I think we were to do one project, but when the kids asked for another, they gave them another but then finally had to say "No" so they had stuff for the next time :)
They are all looking forward to doing it again in a few weeks :)

Where Two or More are Gathered...

Friday right after I had wrote "Why? God, Why" I had gone to our landlady's house to pay rent and just to talk. She has been such a blessing in my life and am so thankful to have her not only as our landlady, but as a friend.
She sensed things weren't right and after we had talked about our move and when, I had shared with her my burden for my friend who has cancer and my burden not to move quite yet until I knew she was getting better. I just feel I need to be there for her. Theresa, our landlady, took me inside the house and prayed over me. Prayed for our family, for Jason with school and moving decisions, for me for peace and that I would a blessing to my friend while we're still here and to our new neighbour, and then she prayed for my friend.
Seriously??!!?? What landlord/lady does that?? She is truly a blessing!! I am trusting Him as he leads our family. Please pray with me!

"Why? God, Why?"

Isaiah 55:8-9
"For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways," says the Lord.
"For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts."
There are times in life where we just don't understand God's way and why He allows things to happen.
Last week, my dear friend was going to the doctor to find out more about what was going on with her possible molar pregnancy she thought she had. She found out that she didn't have a molar pregnancy but rather cancer in both lungs and liver and she is at stage 4.
I can not imagine what she is going through right now, but I've been walking around the house like a zombie trying to wrap my brain around this news and to understand the "why" in all this.
I've been crying out to God begging for His mercy and healing for my friend. She has been my rock in my darkest time of need. She's been my prayer warrior and I hers. So am I being selfish with my prayers?
I want His will to be done, not mine. There are many days when I feel at loss as how to pray. I am thankful for these verses:
Romans 8:26-27
"Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God."
He knows my heart and understands my prayers. I need to trust Him that everything will work out according to His will. He is not the author of confusion but of peace...I Corinthians 14:33
Hebrews 4:16
"Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need."
Psalms 18:30
"As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the Lord is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him."
2 Corinthians 12:9
And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
Philippians 4:6-7
"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
I have to keep reminding myself of all these verses and more.
When I am weak, He is strong!
I ask that you please join me in prayer in lifting up my friend. Praying for healing, strength, wisdom, clarity as she has much to endure in the weeks and months ahead.
Love you, my dear friend...

Wednesday and Thursday, I had the opportunity to clean a friend's house. She needed my help! She had been sooo busy with Chocolate Fest that she hadn't had the chance to clean and her sister was coming up from Kentucky for a visit. So I said, "sure".
They have Australian Shepherd dogs and one recently had 7 puppies!! The kids were in their glory and it ended up being a huge help while I had cleaned the house because it had kept them outside playing with the puppies the whole time!! :)

Slip n' Slide

Memorial Day was another hot day! We had fun going to the parade, but then came home and wanted to do something. So Jason, the kids, and I had gone to the store and gotten the kids a slip n' slide! They sure had a ton of fun! Well, Jesse was the only one who didn't go must be his age these days...

Volunteering for Chocolate Fest

this is a killdeer nest...they lay their eggs in the gravel.  we found this by the volunteer trailer
my hard workers :)
hard at work cleaning up those cigarette butts
sunglasses that mrs. koster gave to jessica :)
In all my years of growing up and living in Burlington, I have never gone to Chocolate Fest.
This year was my first time going, but not to enjoy the rides but to help keep the fair grounds clean of garbage. Life Choices, the pregnancy centre I volunteer at, gets money for doing garbage pick up. So they needed volunteers who were willing to help out. It was a crazy week before trying to call people looking to see who were willing to help. I had met some really neat people while talking to them on the phone, and was thankful for that opportunity.
The kids and I had helped out 3 of the 6 days. We helped Wednesday, which was a day of just getting things set up, so there was a bit of running around back and forth to the centre to get things that was needed. Friday was the day we had gotten to clean up the garbage. First we had to help pass out tickets to the volunteers who were coming. Once everyone arrived, three of the kids had picked out little garbage grabbers and Jacob had picked out the broom and dust pan while I held an extra garbage bag and was in charge of emptying out the big garbage cans if they were full. The kids had a lot of fun helping clean up! I think I had traumatised them when I had thought they had heard me say, "stay right here, I need to get another bag". Well, one heard and the others didn't and when I came back, Jessica was in tears :( so throughout the rest of our two days, she stayed by my side and hardly helped at all in fear of getting caught up in the crowd and losing me :/
By the end of our first round, we quickly realised that the grabbers just weren't working out, so on our second round, all the kids grabbed brooms and dust pans and it was sooo much easier and less frustration :)
All in all, we had fun, saw fireworks, met new friends, got lots of compliments, the kids were given a dollar from some lady, were able to walk around and get a few free things, got to eat lots of chocolate, but all in all it was a good way for the kids to learn about serving others. :)

A Day of Fishing

A few weeks ago, we finally had the opportunity to test out the boat to check for leaks and of course, to do some fishing! Well, the boat leaked, so we had to deal with wet shoes, wet sweatshirts that got dropped, wet pants because someone fell, just plain ol' wet!! Buuut! We had a yon of fun fishing! Yes, we had the tangled lines, snagged lines, lost hooks, unravelled lines, and all the other non fun stuff about fishing in a boat with 6 people! The kids had fun catching fish right at left, mainly Rock Bass, but they sure put up a good fight for the kids.
The next day, Jason had fixed the leak. The following day we had gone out again, and the boat did not leak!! Yay!! That day, we had hit the mother load of Blue gill!!
Thankful the leak is fixed, a lot less stress, but we still need a bigger boat to fit us all :)
